His dates are listed as 1810-22 June 1874. Bobby Fischer wrote "Staunton was the most profound opening analyst of all time. He was more theorist than player, but nonetheless he was the strongest player of his day... In addition, he understood all of the positional concepts which modern players hold dear, and thus must be considered the first modern player." Staunton played such openings as the Sicilian Defense and the Queen's Gambit in the modern style, while the other leading players were still bashing each other with King's Gambits.

The late Arthur Rosenblatt, FAIA, was an architect and consultant who specialized in museums and cultural facilities. He was vice director, then vice president of architecture and planning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He also served as director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, vice president of the Grand Central Partnership, and president of the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The late Stephen A. Kliment, FAIA (Series Founder and Editor), was an architectural journalist and an adjunct professor at the City College of New York. He was chief editor of Architectural Record from 1990 to 1996.

Valuable information complemented with detailed graphics is an effective combination for the understanding of such complex architectural program. Also, it contains a wide gamma of built projects throughout the world which gives the book an immediate reliability quality. Go ahead and get it!

Not good when compared to other books in the "Building Type Basics" series

I own 4 books from Building Type Basics Series. They are Retail Facility, Hospitality Facility, Theater Facility and Museum Facility. So far, I considered this Museum Facility Book as the worst of all 4. For Retail, Hospitality and Theater, these three have a lot of generic information such as historical background of building type, space component, principles of design, etc. They also give a lot of examples based on those generic issues, topic by topic. In this Museum book, it is all about examples with plans and very little background information for each museums. There are a lot of pictures and plans which are not of good quality (I actually didn't expect them to be because it is not the strength of the series). I intended to buy this book (which is expensive) to obtain pure information. I did not get it either.

All I can say is, this book is not up to the par with the others in the same series that I own.

As a practicing architect with several museum clients, this book, written by an authority on museum architecture, is a very useful resource. During the design process of several recent projects, I have referred to the book and found answers to several of my questions. the format and selected projects are outstanding and the text is concise and effective. Its on my shelf by my desk and I will contiue to use it. Highly recommended.

Complete as to PM Techniques and Uses

Perhaps the thing I like best about this book is the front cover illustration. It shows a bunch of spinning plates on the top of slender rods. I can't think of anything better to illustrate the problems of project management. There soon become so many plates, so many parts of a big project that you are constantly running from plate to plate, from emergency to emergency.

Of course what the book is about is the body of knowledge that has been built up to enable big projects to be managed. The current concepts began with the military organizing itself to handle huge development projects during World War II including code breaking and the Atomic bomb project.

This was branched out to other weapons projects and subsequently to managing projects of all types. As the types of projects for which project management techniques have proved useful, so has the body of knowdedge, techniques and procedures for project management.

In this, the fifth edition of this classic text virtually every aspect of project management is covered, updated to the latest practices, and covering the use of project management techniques in many different contexts. This is not a 'cram' book to enable the student to pass the certification test, instead this is a book that covers every aspect of project management and fits it in with overall management of the company.

Probably the best overall book on project management you will find.

Came recommended, but it's one of the worst books text books I've read.

I purchased this book because it was recommended to study for the asapm/IPMA Level D exam. I feel this book suffers from a bad editor. The information is unorganized. There are a lot of words without saying anything. Text is small. I would like to see more explanation of tools for how to accomplish the suggested actions. I am about 2/3 of the way through the book. I wish I had chosen a different study material.

Constructive and in depth for Practicing PM's

I have read this book from front to back and over. There are a multitude of real world scenarios that are described and are extremely helpfull in the day-to-day management of projects. As the authors point out that PM's should not try to use this book to cram for any exam, but use the information wisely. That is what it has been written for.

While not disputing the value of unorthodox solutions to difficult challenges, the organizational culture that underpins this perspective has resulted in a widespread lack of knowledge of Army doctrine by company and field grade officers and mid-level and senior noncommissioned officers. Recognizing this, the Army has dramatically re-engineered its doctrine to distill the timeless principles into a series of accessible, easily read documents. This process has led to a larger discussion of what should and should not be called "doctrine," and has also included discussion of how we as members of the profession of arms conceptualize warfare. Unfortunately, this conversation has not yet included the bulk of the Army's mid-level leaders. Dr. Jackson's monograph is an excellent contribution to remedy that shortfall. Its greatest value lies in the fact that it forces the reader to reconsider basic assumptions about the purpose and utility of doctrine, and what a nation's military doctrine says about its military institution. Jackson's arguments are well reasoned, his assertions are provocative, and his conclusions are profound.

About the Author
Dr. Aaron P. Jackson is a Doctrine Desk Officer at the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Joint Doctrine Centre. In this appointment he has been project manager and/or lead author of six doctrine publications, including Australian Defence Doctrine Publication (ADDP) 00.1-Command and Control, edition 2, and ADDP 5.0- Joint Planning, edition 2. He has also contributed in various ways during the development of fifteen other joint doctrine and related publications, including interagency projects such as the Guide to Defence and Australian Federal Police (International Deployment Group) Interoperability for Offshore Operations, for which he was the ADF's primary representative and key content authority, and a contributing author. Aaron has also served in the Australian Army Reserve for over ten years. He has deployed on operations in Timor Leste and has served on exercise or exchange in the United States, New Zealand and the Philippines. He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (International Relations) and is appointed as a Visiting Fellow at the Griffith Asia Institute, Griffith University, Australia. He is the author of Doctrine, Strategy and Military Culture: Military-Strategic Doctrine Development in Australia, Canada and New Zealand, 1987-2007 (Canadian Forces Aerospace Warfare Centre, 2013), Keystone Doctrine Development in Five Commonwealth Navies: A Comparative Perspective (Sea Power Centre-Australia, 2010), and several peer-reviewed journal articles and other academic papers.

About the Author

The Late Antonio Cassese was Professor of International Law at the University of Florence until 2008. He is a member of the Institut de Droit International, and former President of the Council of Europe
Committee for the Prevention of Torture. He was the first President of the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), serving in this capacity from 1993 to 1997 and then
as the presiding judge of trial chambers until 2000. In October 2004, Cassese was appointed by
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan to be the Chairperson of the UN International
Commission of Enquiry into Violations of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Darfur. In
2006 the United Nations Secretary-General appointed him as an independent expert tasked to
review the judicial efficiency of the Special Court of Sierra Leone. In March 2009 Cassese was
appointed by United Nations as judge for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) where he was
elected President of the Tribunal.
