Happiness in my mailbox today!

Oh the joy of this cookbook. I currently live in Charlotte, NC and my family has driven to Asheville just to eat breakfast here on multiple occasions (it's two hours each way). The food and the staff are that amazing. We will still make the drive because Asheville is so cool, but now we can sometimes eat their food at home. Amaretto Marmalade is my FAVORITE and I am beyond delighted that you shared the recipe. This book is a true representation of updated southern cuisine and you should BUY IT! Plus, the photographs and book quality are lovely ❤️

A learning experience making the most amazing biscuits ever.

Worth it just for the LOVE of what Biscuit Head is. It is not just about cat head biscuits but what you can do with a cat head biscuit. That being said. I found the recipe difficult. It says to sift the flour together but with 2 different kinds of flour if you measure then sift together, it is waaaay too much flour. You would have to sift, measure, combine other dry ingredients, sift again. Then - snapping butter? A whole stick? This is so messy! I use a grater. Once you go to the effort of double sifting the flour - it is still too much volume and I have to increase the buttermilk. I haven't measured exactly but it is likely more than 1/2 a cup extra to get a good consistency to be able to scoop with an ice cream scoop. Still yet - it may be my oven but 375 degrees is just not enough to get a good color/crisp on the outside. I set mine at 400. We do love the finished product though! With fried chicken, country ham and sweet potatoes, eggs and anything/everything else you can think of. If we ever have left overs, the french toast recipe is good as well. We anxiously await our next trip to Asheville to see what is new!

There is not a recipe in the book that I do not want to try. All of the recipes are relatively simple and do not depend on hard-to-find ingredients. These recipes are also more practical than most in terms of time required to make them.

Prioleau's captivating debut is a fervid self-help tract well-disguised as a history. "Seductresses are in fact the liberated women incarnate," asserts the author in her opening chapter. "They're the stealth heroines of history. The first feminists." It's a persuasive argument, which Prioleau pounds home with massive fists full of quotations, attributions and texts from anthropology, religion, psychology, history, art, literature, music and anything else she can get her hyperintellectual hands on. Modern women have lost their goddess-centered groove, the Manhattan College professor asserts, and as a consequence the entire race is going to hell in a male-dominated, bimbo-focused handbasket. If only women would search their collective unconscious for their archetypal Goddess roots, they'd realize modern feminism has rendered them joyless, and the reality TV/Barbie look-alike trends are hooey. Rather, women of any age (there's a chapter on "silver foxes") or looks (another chapter on "homely sirens") are multiorgasmic, brilliant, joyous power mavens who possess everything to bring a man to his willing knees and keep both genders happy and sated. Telling wonderfully peripatetic tales of self-possessed sirens and seductresses throughout the eons, Prioleau makes a strong case for women to take back their ancestral birthright of sexy wholeness (though the problems of non-middle-class women, like poverty, among others, never enter her worldview). Educational and Inspiring Sexy Little Black Book! ;-)

If you are a literate woman, you must give this book a peek! :-) There is no guarantee that you will adore it, but it's worth a try just in case you fall in love with it like I did!

Though I've never been a woman of particularly low self-esteem, I have hit emotionally low points. It was during one of these times that I was cruising Amazon for something fun and empowering to read, and this book fit the bill perfectly.

As discussed in several other reviews,"Seductress" by Betsy Prioleau is broken into several chapters: a preface, 2 introductory chapters and a chapter devoted to each seductress archetype that Ms. Prioleau groups her subjects into: non-beauties, seniors, intellectuals, artists, rulers/policy-makers and adventurers. There is also a last chapter discussing the present and future of the Seductress.

This book is hard to classify. It is designed to uplift women, so I guess it's kind of self-help, but it has very little blatant instruction. Instead, you get a handful of Seductress/Goddess qualities in an opening chapter and a whole lot of mini-biographies on intelligent, lively feisty women. The "Seductress" information that is contained here is for the reader to "absorb" from the book's subjects.

What I LOVE about this book: First of all, I love its non-gentle, kick-in-the-rear, warrior tone. No hand-holding here! The overall message as I perceived it: "Women are the original leaders of the prehistoric world. They were revered. Here's why. YOU are a woman. Take back what's yours! Look how these women did it!"
Though Prioleau argues aggressively for women's superiority, there also is an important element throughout the book highlighting the importance of enjoying men and sex. In abundance. Men are not our enemies. Men are great. They should make you feel wonderful, strong and sexy (though your own happiness should come from within).

I also enjoyed the first 2 chapters which outlined the history of the Seductress as a type of woman and of the goddess in prehistory and ancient civilization. Some may find these chapters a bit dry and repetitive, but as someone who loves history and world goddess culture, I found it very interesting. This is actually where I received the most empowering information about what makes a Seductress: Be a goddess, get treated like a goddess. Hey, its a formula that works! :-) The meat-and-potatoes of the book - the mini bios themselves - are also uplifting, but entertaining as well.

My absolute fave women here (and there are soo many that I have never heard of!) include Ninon De L'Enclos, Victoria Woodhull, Agnes Sorel, Hortense Mancini, Madame de Maintenon, Diane de Poitiers, Nell Gwyn, Emilie du Chatelet, Beryl Markham, Wallis Simpson, Lola Montez, Josephine Baker and, of course, the indomitable Cleopatra VII. This book caused me to add a full-length biography of each woman to my Amazon book wish list (where available). I catch myself thinking of these women from time to time and wondering how they would handle a situation. I should make a bracelet that reads WWCD: What Would Cleopatra Do? :-) LOL!

As a lover of reading and words, this book was very well-written and full of beautifully crafted language. Because of this, the reading was slow for me at times. But the words she uses are not to be flown through, but savored. There are also many humorous and thought-provoking historical quotes at the beginning of each chapter concerning women and sex,love and power (or women's lack of the aforementioned qualities).

I am so happy that I stumbled across this book, and I urge other women to give it a go as well. I love this book, and I pray that you see the same wisdom and magic in it as I do.

I love this book

read this with an open mind. it is a stunning look at women, and at women with power. i first got my hands on this book at 16 and i have bought it about 9 times. it is a wonderful look at how to be powerful, beautiful inside and out, and how to be happy. every time i read this book it helps me re learn to love myself. i have had almost every woman i know read it and it is a beautiful start in a long road to love

Until you understanding seduction you will never believe you can be a seductress. This book shows that there's no one type fits all seductress. Excellent book. In a time where seduction is based on everything other than what it is, this book is a wonderful source for learning and referencing the women who lived and embodied each type of seductress. I would recommend it.

Le Corbusier's Modulor l and ll

The books arrived well packaged and on time. The books however were a little smaller than what I anticipated since the last time I reviewed these same books was at a local library, but nevertheless I was impressed that the books did come in a compacted design. For what better way to show off the design tool called the Modulor by placeing a picture of it on it's very own jacket that comes with the books. You feel as if the whole box set is some sort of handy carpenters tape measure to carry 'round with you.The inside of the book is full of explanatory remarks about perfecting, creating and applying this human scale ruler which incorporates the practical use of what is termed the Golden Section and thereby adhereing it to his/your own building designs. For those of you who are avid Golden Ratio/Section seekers these two books are a great gift idea and a great collectors item.The books also include many letters too from his colleagues who critique and sometimes try to disprove his modular idea, that it really works.I have included pictures to show you the overall appearance of both books and its smart jacket design. Therefore I say an excellant choice and would recommend to college students, Architects, and all those versed in the Arts in general

Ambitious

Le Corbusier fans and students know the couragous contributions this great architect gave the world. Le Modulor is the tool with which he created his great works and belived that this tool is accessable to all. A tool that assists the designer to ensure proportion is always (if not most of the time) correct, true, and beautiful. Le Modular addresses the philosophy behind the tool and discusses the usablity of the tool.

Another excellent book is "Geometry of Design: Studies in Proportion and Composition" by Kimberly Elam. It is short on words, adequate on images, and terrific at explaining in an elemental way the use of proportioning tools.

A bit of history...

Le Corbusier had been working for some time on his Modulor system using these French decimal measurements but without much success. Then one of his collaborators, Py, said: "Isn't the height we are working with rather a French height? Have you ever noticed that in English detective novels the hero is always six feet tall?" Le Corbusier continues: " We then applied this standard. To our delight, the graduations of a new Modulor, based on a man six feet tall, translated themselves into round figures in feet and inches". (hardly surprising when you consider that this is a natural system of measure.).

Some good examples of horses - some difficult, some easy

This is a great resource book for a variety of origami horses. Some of the horses are fairly easy to fold, but some get a little more difficult. Some of the instructions seem a bit unclear when making certain folds, but with patience and time, they can be figured out. It's best to begin with very large sheets of paper for the more complicated folds - the paper gets thick in places and it's much more difficult to fold when you begin with smaller pieces of paper. 8 1/2 inch square is a little too small for doing the more complicated models - I would suggest beginning with a 16 - 24 inch square of thin paper for these, then once the process is understood, you can switch to smaller sheets.

I received this book so I could do the exercises in the textbook and make a copy so I could turn in my assignments to my professor, but they had been torn out. I'll be sending this back asap. Great condition but a waste of my time and money.

This book is great for passing around to another student after you're done as long as you don't rip out the assignment pages. You can star, circle, etc. assignment questions and still have it looking nice. The book is great for beginning journalism students.

Great beginner book!

I love this book a lot!
I am only about 20% in because this book contains a lot of chapters and I want to slowly go over each chapter by reading every text out-loud a few times. I am around A2 and questionably B1 (haha) and I find the text to be quite easy and fun to read. The book is very useful for building vocabulary and making you feel comfortable with the way the language is structured. Listen to the audio on youtube! I just wish the audio was in mp3 because that would make everything easier for me to listen to outside.
For the price, you cannot find a better deal! :D

Very nice book for beginners and intermediates to get into the reading process and learn some new content

Very nice book. I read it together with my students in class and they really enjoy to be able to read such a variety of texts with ease. There is also an audio book of the chapters on youtube which complements the book. Good choice for German-learners.

Wow, what a great book to begin learning German. You can tell in the forty lessons, that there is a clear plan to introduce new vocabulary. But you're never 'overwhelmed' because the writer cleverly repeats phrases to reinforce the vocabulary. Never boring, always interesting, this book proceeds in a logical way that's engaging and done in bite-size blocks of text in each lesson so you're really able to absorb the material easily and almost without effort. A great book and a 'no-brainer' price. Don't forget to go to the authors site/channel for the audio if you want to include a comprehension element to the experience. I just LOVE this book and the audio that goes with it. Great job! Highly recommended!
