About the Author
Joseph J. Trento has had a long and brilliant career as an internationally known investigative reporter. The stories he has broken include the Justice Department perjury probe into CIA Director Richard Helms after the overthrow of the Chilean government, the case of missing CIA official John Arthur Paisley, the role of intelligence officials profiteering with CIA renegade Edwin Wilson, the first major report showing how the U.S. was secretly arming Iraq and Iran, and he reported on a secret arms deal in 2000 that resulted in the removal of the President of Peru. His books on the intelligence community include Widows and The Secret History of the CIA. He works in Washington, D.C., where he is president of the Public Education Center, an incubator for important media stories.

Fascinating examination of Ted Shackley and company...

This is a fascinating examination of a splinter group of CIA operatives who were fired from the Agency and continued to use their CIA connections to back the Iran - Contra operation, the October Surprise, and build a conduit to the Saudis and the ultra-conservative religious strain of Islam that spawned today's terror organizations. Ted Schackley, of Miami Station's JMWAVE operation, is revealed as far more influential than is often thought. An interesting book for intelligence buffs; Trento stirs many pots here.

What about Clinton?

Very nice work on the "Safari Club" and quite possibly the "Enterprise". My only concern about the book is that history came to a halt during the Clinton Administration. If the "Sept 11 2001" incident was the "culmination of blowback" by this "private sector" intelligence group what of the Clinton Administration's actions and omissions in Afghanistan, Sudan and Saudi Arabia? Mr. Clinton's responses had some impact upon Al Qaeda, why no mention of it?
Aside this lapse the book is interesting and worth a read.

Informative, Yes. Reliable, who knows

I enjoyed this book although it is a grisly subject. So many people messed up with and by the CIA.
CIA as huge drug agents!
It is very interesting, well footnoted, yet it is such a complicated subject we may not be sure it is all accurate.
